| March | The evening of Wednesday 18th January provided the Section with a first class presentation by Paul Metcalfe of B.O.M. Batteries. Paul delivered a very informative and entertaining session on the merits of the various types of vehicle batteries that are available nowadays, and the most effective ways of ensuring their longevity. Judging by the number of questions from the floor, the evening was very well received. Two nights later, on Friday the 20th January, we were again assembled at ‘The Shires’ for a very enjoyable annual Presentation Evening. Attendance was good with a combination of 48 members and their guests being present. This is the first time that the evening has been organised with a buffet, rather than a formal dinner, and the Committee are very interested to receive the views of those who attended. Our thanks go to ‘The Shires’ and to those who donated the superb raffle prizes. |
| February | What a day! Spring like weather, a pretty rural marketplace setting, a strong gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts and a good selection of bikes old and new. The Mid-Lincs Boxing Day Run had it all. In excess of 40 bikes gathered in Market Rasen Market Place, with 23 eventually ‘signing on' and taking part in the day’s event. The 28 mile route was leisurely, sunny and finished at a country pub. What more could one want and, what a contrast to last year! Thanks are due to the organisers for a very enjoyable winter run. The February Section Meeting will be held at ‘The Shires’ on Wednesday the 15th at 7.30pm and will include a ‘table-top’ rally. I hope you all had an enjoyable festive season and, on behalf of myself and the Section Committee, have a healthy and prosperous New Year and a great riding season. |

Our October talk featuring Steve Scrimenger was very interesting, featuring many aspects of race engine development for both F1 and BMW. The year ends with the Boxing Day Run , traditionally on the 26th December, meeting up as usual in Market Rasen Market Place for around 10.00 am. Come along and clear your heads! Hopefully the weather will be better than the last two years. The re-scheduled Presentation Evening is due to occur on January 20th 2012 at the Shires, see new committee for details. Seasons greetings to all our members and their families, Looking forward to an active and safe 2012.

The evening with Jim Redman was a huge success, a complete sellout, Jim proved a very entertaining speaker. The evening was enhanced by the loan of a period Honda-6, thanks to Honda UK. Thanks to all who sold tickets and helped with the organization. To round off the evening, a raffle for prizes donated by Nigel Clarke of CBG and Jim Allen raised over £100 for the local Air Ambulance. Regular club activities continued, the Autumn Run saw 17 riders following a route set by Paul Lynch, to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, where a number of engines were “in steam”, an excellent end of season run. The Mid-Lincs AGM resulted in several key changes in section officials. Mr Sam Pearson takes over as Chairman, Mr Richard Booth is the new secretary and Mr Richard Maw assumes the role of treasurer The majority of the previous committee was returned to office, many thanks to those members who have retired as section officers; their input has been most appreciated. November club night on the 16th, features the world famous auction, please empty your sheds and garages and make a few bob! Presentation Evening has been deferred, see web site for latest information. PRG

Activities in July started with a meet with the VSCC at Swallow, we had a good turn out on what turned into a fairly cool evening. Barton bike night was its usual crowded self, with a huge variety of classic and vintage machines in our area of the show. The visit to Langworth was unfortunately poorly attended, probably due to the inclement weather. September now has a new event to publicise. On Tuesday 20th Mr. Jim Redman, former World Champion will be giving a talk at The Shires, 7.30 for 8.00. This is an all ticket event; tickets must be obtained in advance. See any committee member for source of tickets. This talk is followed the next night, Wed. 21st, by the AGM at The Shires. We host two runs in September, the Northern Veteran Run on 4th Sept starting at Wickenby Airfield at 10.00am and the Autumn Run starting at 9.30am from The Stables Farm Shop, Melton Ross.

Our Best Kept Bike night was held on what turned into a rather wet night, a good turn out saw Alan Laundon take the Pre-war trophy with his 1923 Connaught and Paul Collins the Post –war prize with his 1950 Vincent Shadow. A small group attended the Lindsey Lodge Garden party where the assembled machines met with quite a lot of interest, thanks are due to Harry, who brought 4 machines and provided shelter for the riders on a damp afternoon. The meeting at Riverside Inn, Southery, on a Saturday for a change, was a little light in participants, 7 riders and a couple of cars being the total over the lunch time. Fish and Chip run at Woodhall Spa, Friday 5th Humber Bridge Run with the East Yorks. section on Sunday 7th Noggin at the Royal Oak , Holton-le-Clay on Wednesday 17th Chris Lees Mystery run on Sunday 21st starting at the Shires.

The Pre-40s Run was organised by Stewart
with his usual attention to detail, providing an interesting route, a Tea stop
+ lunch break at
Ingham before returning to Redbourne. Only 1 out of the 25 starters retired.
Many thanks to all concerned with the run. The meeting at the Nags head at Bardney
saw a varied range of machines attend over the evening. Participants arriving
and leaving depending on distance traveled type of vehicle and confidence in
their electrics! Our riding season got off to a superb start with the Bluestone Heath Run, Jim and Liz Allen had organized an excellent route, with lovely weather, the route being well off the beaten track with “special tests” to further confuse the riders! Thanks to the Allens and all their helpers for providing a great run, with what I believe was a record turn out for a season opener. We also were treated to a very interesting talk on magnetos by Mr Andrew Guttmann, he provided a fascinating insight into his research as to why magnetos fail and what can be done to resurrect dead ones. June should be a busy month with the

The talk in March by Tim Britton of OBM was entertaining and gave us an insight into the problems of producing a publication about our hobby. By now all members should have their motorcycles up and running, so hopefully the pre 40’s run will be well attended on the 15th May, see web site for details. Please note that in compliance with the wishes of the members , the May club night is at the Nags Head, Bardney, Wednesday 18th May, for a noggin and natter. The February ‘Odd-object’ evening with Stan and Moira Bartle proved very entertaining, the range of strange tools and artifacts produced for identification was vast, thanks to Stan and Moira for a great night. The team formed to compete in the Inter
Marque quiz, run by the MG Car club, almost proved successful on their first
attempt, being narrowly beaten into 3rd place by the East Elloe and
Royal Enfield teams. A great result Hopefully with the slight improvement in the weather, everyone should be sorting out their noble steeds for our first run of the season, the improved Bluestone Heath Run, hopefully we will see a good turn out and good weather on the day. Forthcoming events see:-

The unfortunate illness of our planned speaker restricted our evening meeting to a noggin and natter. We hope Mr Barker is now fully recovered. It gave us the opportunity to catch up with gossip and make plans for the coming season.. Well done to Keith Beecroft who managed to get his beautifully restored Gold Star into the final 12 of the Carol Nash competition. A fine achievement. March should see a talk by Tim Britton from OBM, so come along and ask your questions. The riding season rapidly approaches, first event is a revamped Bluestone Heath run from Holton-le-Clay on April 10th, No excuses accepted get those machines out! Forthcoming events see:-

The dreadful weather, approaching and over the festive
season, ensured that only a few hardy souls ventured out on motorcycles to
Market Rasen on Boxing Day. The
small but select attendance plus associated spectators retired to the Beckett
Arms for warmth and a chat, it being deemed to hazardous to attempt a run away
from the main roads. Well done to all who rode. February sees a change in the programme, Mr Stan Bartle
will be attending to amaze us with one of his famous odd object evenings. I hope
that the weather may have improved by then. Forthcoming events see www.midlincsvmcc.co.uk Wednesday 16th February Odd

The Annual Auction is an eagerly anticipated event and this year saw a fine collection of motorcycle parts and related items move on to new homes. Thanks to all who attended, especially the back room crew whose work ensures the smooth completion of a sometimes confusing night. January should see, weather permitting, Mr John Barker provide an illustrated talk on Veteran Cars. All members should now be in possession of the 2011 calendar, published in the December journal. May I wish all members a prosperous 2011, as we look forward to an active year of vintage motorcycling. We held the last run of the year on an extremely wet Sunday in September, nine intrepid riders braving the conditions to attend the CBG Big Breakfast at Markham. A big thanks to all who turned out. At our October meeting, we welcomed Jim Reynolds who gave an absorbing illustrated talk on his life as a motorcycle journalist, his anecdotes kept a sizeable group quiet for some time. As the festive season approaches it just remains to wish all members a Happy Christmas and to remind the enthusiasts that our usual Boxing Day run starts at 10.30am from Market Rasen Market Place. Barton Bike Night proved as ever an entertaining evening, can anyone explain why you can see so many “one-off “ attendances at these type of events , yet never see the people or machines at any other event in the year?. As ever, anyone wishing to stand for a committee post is more than welcome. Autumn Run on 19th September will start at Cherry Tree Farm , Glentham, 9.30am and take in the CBG Big Breakfast.

Many thanks to all who turned out to support the static displays in June at Baysgarth Museum and Lindsey Lodge Hospice, two excellent displays in good weather. The Best Kept Bike Night had one of the best attendances for some years and quality of preparation was evident throughout. An enthusiastic crowd voted for their favourites, with the following result. Harry Bacon took best Pre-War with a 1927 770 BSA V-Twin, Richard Maw took the Post-War class with a 1950 Triumph Trophy TR5. A busy August is coming up, we hope to see as many members as possible out and about, let’s hope the good weather continues.

The April Practical evening was based on the motorcycle MOT test, Jim Allen and John Nunn skillfully demonstrating on Nigel Clarke’s Norton the points to of interest. A lively exchange with the assembled multitude gave us several points to consider for future tests. An extra talk is confirmed for Monday June 15th at The Bell, this is not on your card. Mr. Jeff Gawley is to talk on his exploits as a sidecar racer. This is, I believe, the first time Jeff has spoken on this subject and should be extremely informative.
